Those who care for elderly or disabled loved ones know that it is a full-time job. Providing full-time care is not only mentally and physically taxing but can also be financially stressful for the friend or family member providing the care. This is why it allows eligible residents to enroll in Consumer Direct Services as both recipients and care providers.

State-funded Consumer Direct Services allow eligible Missouri residents to provide the proper level of care that a friend or family member requires while being financially compensated for their time and commitment to the recipient.

Financial Relief with CDS

To be an eligible care provider and to be financially compensated, you must meet the following criteria:

Elderly or disabled individuals enrolled in consumer direct services that meet the requirements for medical aid are allowed to choose their caregivers that provide. The caregiver may be a friend or a family member. However, the caregiver cannot be a legally responsible relative, like a spouse or parent of a child under the age of 21.

Consumer Direct Services Care Providers Must Meet the Following Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be an adult child of the care recipient.
  • Be a friend or relative of the care recipient (No spouses or Parents of a Child Under 21)
  • Must be over 18 years of age.
  • Must be CPR certified.
  • Must Pass a standard background check.

Consumer Direct Services Care Provider Ineligible If They Meet Any of the Following:

  • Care providers cannot be the spouse of a care recipient.
  • Care providers cannot be the parent or guardian of a recipient under age 21.

How do Care Providers get Paid for their Time and Services?

 

Eligible and verified providers are compensated for their services by the Medicaid account of the individual they care for.
